At the beginning of this year, I was wondering about how 2017 would look like for this world, for my surrounding, for me. I decided that, this year will be different. I decided to make this year count – and crucial to note is that, it was me who was going to make the year count and it was in my power.
Oftentimes, we make new year’s resolutions and are highly motivated to “make things different this time”, but somehow we find ourselves at square one again, towards the end of the year.
Personally, I believe this is due to lack of discipline – discipline and true desperation for what we set ourselves as goals. It should not be a trend for us to make new year resolutions simply because “this is what people do”. It should be a conscious decision. If you are not desperate enough, you won’t go for it with all you’ve got. You need to be obsessed with that motto of yours. No matter what.
As a result, I decided to be more systematic about it. I needed to ask myself what it was that I wanted now vs what it was that I wanted most. So I wrote down a motto for myself, created a weekly schedule and reminder to never forget to go back to that motto. It became my north star, my compass for the year.
Part of the practical conversion of that motto was that I found myself in Sicily a few months ago – to take beautiful summer outfit shoots and to enjoy a change of scenery from grey Dublin (Ireland). You can see them in this post.
Now that I came back and reviewed my life, I pulled out my motto of 2017. It says: Stop waiting for things to happen. Go out and make them happen. Don’t wait for the perfect moment, take the moment and make it perfect. Dreams won’t work unless you do. Upon re-reading these sentences (amongst other things), I decided to embark on a new adventure.
What did I do? Well, I quit my well-paid job at a quite renowned company and moved to Ukraine to serve as a volunteer. I may be sharing more about life over here, so stay tuned. 🙂 I’m also in the process of revamping my blog and decided to start a Youtube Channel. There is a lot in the pipeline, watch out!
From all of this, the most important thing however is to ask yourself: What is your goal? How do you want your year, your life to look like? What do YOU need to do to make that goal/these goals come to realisation?
Keep in mind: All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to truly pursue them. Work to achieve them!
