Have you ever worked yourself to tiredness? Until you started asking yourself why you are doing what you are doing? Why do you put so much work into your job and sometimes, nothing comes out of it? No results? No promotions? No recognition?
Well, I have been there and I know exactly how that feels. The misery, the feeling of being useless and working for nothing. What I have however come to understand is that, we should not work to get promotions, recognition or money. Yes, these things are nice to receive and can also build you up, especially when it comes to recognition. However, the primary purpose of work is to discover yourself. The other things are side effects, if you focus on the right thing.
Work should be used to build your skills, your experience, your knowledge, your network. Make the most of work by making use of all the resources you receive through it. For instance, in your job, you may have access to certain tools and information someone else would normally pay for. Make use of that, even (especially!) of things most people consider minor, or not worth their attention. Learn as much as you can in order to prepare yourself for opportunities that come along – and believe me, they will come. Work for you! That way, your job will not be a burden, but a stepping stone to creation – a creation of your own dream thanks to the experience you have gained. This is where your focus should be.
You are the boss of your own life. But you have to work like a boss too – because you are the CEO of your life.
Keep in mind: There is no luck. There only is preparation meeting opportunity.
